Hamilton Beach

The Hamilton Beach Manufacturing Company was established in 1910 by L.H. Hamilton and Chester Beach. Although it was said to be founded by Frederick J. Osius in Racine, Wisconsin, he actually paid Hamilton and Beach $1000 each for the right to use their names.

Beach managed the company while Hamilton managed the business and advertising aspects. In 1905 Chester Beach invented a high-speed fractional motor which was then used in most of the company’s product. Mr. Osius patented many products which the company sold and in 1911 he designed and introduced the agitator implement for the company’s first drink mixer.

In 1921, the company introduced the lightweight vacuum cleaner, and by the end of the 1920s more products followed suit. Within a relatively short period, the Hamilton Beach’s product line expanded and they started producing food mixers, juice extractors, meat grinders, fans, floor polishers, and more.

Hamilton Beach wasn’t content to stop there, and continued to work on more new products; the company grew into being an exceptional household name.

Like many companies during the Second World War, the company leveraged its core expertise and manufactured motors and some other equipment for the United States military.

In 1960 two prominent companies merged; The Proctor and Silex companies, offering users a wider variety of appliances.

The Proctor-Silex company was very successful in both sales and production. In the year 1990, NACCO Industries, Inc. brought together two leading small appliances company: Hamilton Beach and Proctor-Silex. Combined they became the largest small appliance manufacturer in the United States.

Going international in 1995, the company has continued to produce innovative product designs for their users and currently sells over 33 million appliances every year.
